Firefighters in Hamilton worked for over 14 hours to put a fire out at a Ravalli County business that ignited Saturday night.
Police are still looking into how the fire at Hamilton Feed and Farm on Foxfield Street started (see map). It was first reported at about 8:45 p.m. Saturday, and firefighters arrived to find flames burning near the back end of the building, where the hay and straw bails were stored.
Hamilton Fire Department Assistant Chief Kevin Mora said that the fire got into the attic and the roof collapsed.
We talked Hamilton Feed and Farm Vice President of Retail Operations Dennis Ross, who has high hopes that the store to stay open for customers, and want to know how it started.
"We're going to try finding some place in town so that we can get open again for our customers. I'm thinking that'll take a couple weeks to get done and then we'll turn around and get this thing rebuilt and be up and running again."
Manager Dawn Winn wants to know how the blaze ignited. "It's a great store and it's really sad, it's very emotional as to what we're all going through right now. So, any tips anybody has would be great."
We're told no one was hurt in the blaze and a local cat who lived in the building was able to survive.
Mora said the fire caused smoke and water damage to the building and that the damages could total as much as $400,000 or $500,000 and that it looks like a total loss at this point.
Over 30 firefighters to the scene Saturday night and they finished mopping up at about 11:30 on Sunday morning.
