Some new information has been released about last month's deadly shooting involving the Powder River County Sheriff.
The state Justice Department's Criminal Investigations division is handling the investigation and County Attorney Jeff Noble says the man who was shot and killed was armed with a handgun.
The confrontation occurred when Power River County Sheriff John Blain responded with a deputy to a report of trespassing on a ranch north of Broadus back on May 18th.
Investigators determined John Thomas Andrew, 59, from Wilsall, brandished his weapon at the officers, and that posed an immediate and direct threat to Sheriff Blain and Deputy John Robinson.
The shooting occurred as the Sheriff found Andrew in an equipment shed.
John Strandell, Chief of the state's Investigations Bureau, says investigators are waiting for crime lab results and are trying to determine why Andrew was in the Broadus Area, some 300 miles from his home in Wilsall.
Noble and Strandell say it may take a couple months until they're ready for a coroner's inquest. The division of Criminal Investigations is still investigating, and will schedule the inquest.
