A rash of criminal activity has been reported in Butte where police received complaints of 12 incidents of vehicle vandalism Thursday morning.

At 6 a.m. Thursday police began receiving calls from people reporting criminal mischief throughout the town, according to Butte-Silver Bow Sheriff John Walsh. Reports were received from the flats, the country club area, Walkerville, the upper west side and on Harrison Avenue.

While there have been several reports of criminal mischief this week, authorities fielded a dozen calls Thursday morning for reports of vehicle vandalism. The incidents involve a suspect or suspects shooting out the windows of vehicles with pellet or BB guns or using some other instrument like a baseball bat.

This has been a growing problem since last week and is taking place all over town, Walsh said.

In another incident, police responded to an alarm at RD's Party Shop at 848 West Park Street at 3:30 a.m. Thursday, Walsh said.

Once on scene, police found the front door window was smashed. Surveillance video shows a man breaking the window with rocks, entering the business and stealing two 24 packs of beer, Walsh said.

The suspect is described as Caucasian, 25 to 30 years old, standing six feet and weighing around 180 pounds.
