A fishing access site on the Big Horn River will be closed at least through the Fourth of July weekend due to high water from the increased flow of water out of Bighorn Lake.
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials have closed the Grant Marsh Fishing Access north of Hardin after the high river washed out part of the road, parking lot, latrine and boat launch.
The river was flowing at about 5,000 cubic feet per second earlier this month and the Bureau of Reclamation increased that to more than 12,000 cfs.
FWP's Bob Gibson is warning folks to to use extreme caution if planning to fishing the Big Horn River.
"Right below the dam for the first six miles, there's not a lot of big cottonwoods and debris floating down the river. But as you get down below St. Xavier, certainly below Hardin, there's a real opportunity for the big cottonwoods and the junky debris to float down."
Bighorn Lake is four feet into the flood pool and more water is flowing into the lake than out into the river.
