Hens topic of Polson meeting

Susan Eggers approached Polson City commissioners to ask to be allowed to keep her two hens Thelma and Louise in her yard on Webber Avenue in Polson.

Someone had seen the cages and complained, although Polson Police Chief Doug Chase said no formal complaint had been filed.

Polson City Manager Todd Crossett said the city ordinance currently reads no poultry. So Eggers would have to apply for a variance or a change in the ordinance.

Crossett added that raising chickens in urban areas has become popular (like in Missoula, and usually ordinances restrict the poultry to hens only.

Commissioners voted to table the item to re-write the ordinance.
