An Anaconda couple is behind bars and facing drug charges involving a half pound of marijuana.
A house on Busch Avenue was broken into Sunday night when the homeowner, a male, had gone to pick up a female in need of a ride to another location, Butte-Silver Bow police said. Police say the female was Tenille McDowell of Anaconda. Her husband is Charles McDowell, 26, who was allegedly breaking into the man's house through the back door while the homeowner was offering the friendly gesture to Tenille McDowell.
Police say they found blood on the door's glass pane and the homeowner said a large quantity of cigarettes was all that was stolen. But when Anaconda police later caught up with McDowell, he had a bloody arm and his wife was in the passenger seat of his car. That's when police not only found the missing cartons of cigarettes but also reportedly found 264 grams of marijuana inside the vehicle.
Authorities in Anaconda charged the couple with criminal possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
McDowell was charged with burglary as well in Butte.
The two were arraigned Monday before Justice of the Peace Joanne Welch who set their bail set at $10,000 each.
