Animal expert Jack Hanna and his wife Suzi are in the middle of filming their "Into the Wild" television series in several Montana towns. Hanna's show is now in its third season and has been filming in Montana from Ovando to Kalispell this week.

The crew spent Thursday in Polson, and The News Station tagged along to get a behind the scenes look at Hanna's show.

Jack Hanna says the show features stories about people who love the animal world, and this week the crew visited the Horse Heaven Ranch and Rescue near Polson, where Francine Wood takes in abused and abandoned horses.

While the show highlights animals from all over the world, it's the two-legged characters that are the real stars. "People wonder what our show is about. It's not about the animals, it's about the people that have love for the animal world, who care about creatures that no one really cares about," Hanna told us.

He took us along at the Horse Heaven Ranch and talked about what Wood does to help out animals, saying, "She makes sure all the animals are cared for and adopts the horses out."

The facility sits on 11 acres where the one-woman horse ranch cares for 19 horses, some abused, some abandoned, but all loved.

"I take in horses that are abused, neglected, or nutritionally challenges or half starved," Wood explained.

But Francine Wood fell on hard economic times as many have, and needed some help. So she called in Hanna. She explained, "Well, he lives in Bigfork, so I got the phonebook out and just called...We're having a great time. Jack and Sue are just wonderful people."

Into The Wild will now give Wood and her animals their 15 minutes of fame. "The show is very active. My family is in the show, and it shows (that) you can take your family to these places" Hanna said.

The TV star also told us that being back in Montana is a blessing. "Montana is very special to me. I live here and some people tell me ‘Jack don't tell too many people about Montana they might come here'. But, you want people to see the beautiful state...the people of Montana make Montana so special".

For her part, Wood hopes the exposure from the show will match the horses with a home. "I want to make sure the horse is going to have a long term home...It's worth it to me when I see a little 12-year old come over and fall in love with a horse and the horse fall in love with him."

Wood's episode is set to air in early October.
