Officials are looking for leads into the theft of an antique cash register which was taken from the Garnet Ghost Town Visitor Center.
Bureau of Land Management officials report that sometime between the night of August 23rd and the morning of August 24th someone broke into the Visitor Center and made off with the register which officials say is about 90 years old.
BLM officials are asking the public, especially antiques dealers and pawn shops, to keep a look out for the metal register which has a wood base and drawer. It was manufactured by the National Cash Register Co. in Dayton, Ohio.
"It's an important piece of the Visitor Center and is greatly missed," said Maria Craig, an archaeologist with the BLM's Missoula Field Office. "We hope people will watch for it and that it will eventually return to Garnet."
The Granite County Sheriff's Office was notified of the theft and is investigating the incident.
Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call the BLM Missoula Field Office at (406) 329.3914 or the Granite County Sheriff's Office at (406) 859.3215.
