A new Powell County commissioner has been named to complete the term of the late Gail Jones.

Donna Young of Elliston was selected for the position of District 3 Powell County commissioner after commissioners met Aug. 29 with three candidates. Patrecia Hansen and Bill Smith were the other two candidates for the seat. The three candidates were provided by the Republican Central Committee.

Young will hold the position through the general election in November 2010. She must then run in 2010 to complete the full term which runs through 2012.

Jones, 69, died in June in Deer Lodge following a battle with cancer. Jones was the chairwoman of the Powell County Commissioners. She was a long-time Deer Lodge resident who was originally from Butte.
