Montanans competing for precious medals are getting help from an auction for precious stones.
One of a kind Yogo Sapphire earrings, necklaces, and pendants are up for grabs, and the jewels will not only make you look good, but also feel good as all proceeds will go to Special Olympics Montana.
The Yogo Sapphire Mine donated all the gems and then asked local jewelers to create unique pieces from them for an online auction, and then further bidding at an upcoming dinner.
"It's called the Montana Sports Legend Auction and Banquet, and a big array and large collection of sports people that have roots in Montana, will be there and then there will be a live auction" explained Special Olympics Montana Vice President of Development Jim Lawrence.
He says mine owner Mike Roberts has a child who is an Olympic athlete, and is a huge supporter of the games.. He clearly isn't the only one as the owners of Yogo Sapphire Jewelry in Great Falls say they were also very eager to help.
"We feel it is a very worthy cause, and we do have friends and family that participate in Special Olympics" said Phyllis Gunther.
There are roughly 2,000 athletes involved in Special Olympics Montana, and with the dwindling economy, it's become tougher to fund all the expenses. But, Lawrence says the jewels up for purchase on the web are valued at approximately $60,000, with every penny benefiting the athletes.
"The purpose of what we actually do is we train people for life, through sports, through Olympic type sports, and what that does for all of our athletes, it provides them dignity, self respect, and self confidence."
The graciousness and hard work from all the donors definitely does not go unnoticed by the beneficiaries like Josh Anderson, "It means a lot to me, having all the volunteers and donors and how generous they are with their time and money".
