A 14-year old boy is being charged with arson for starting a wildlands fire Tuesday afternoon in Rock Creek.
Missoula County Sheriff's Department officials say that the boy is being charged with negligent arson for starting the blaze with fireworks.
Firefighters responded to the blaze at about 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday and crews attacked the fire from the ground and the air.
Firefighters had the fire under control in about an hour despite Tuesday's windy conditions.
Quick work by firefighters on Tuesday evening kept some burning trailers from turning into another wildlands fire east of Missoula.
Fire crews from Clinton, and as far away as East Missoula were called to the Rock Creek area shortly after 5:00 p.m. after receiving reports that three trailers on private property had caught fire.
The blaze happened on the north side of the freeway and east of the Rock Creek interchange on I-90.
The trailers were burning on Bonita Ranger Station Road which is right up against the hillside that had already burned in the Mile Marker 124 fire two summers ago.
Crews attacked the blaze on the ground, and were able to call in water drops from a helicopter. That helped them bring the fire under control in about an hour, despite the windy conditions.
