Authorities say have released the name of a man who was killed in Sunday afternoon crash in U.S. Highway 93 north of Whitefish.
The Flathead County Sheriff's Department reports that Christopher S. Kelly, 38, of Kila died of severe neck trauma after attempting to pass a car and ramming into an oncoming car in the other lane near mile marker 147.
Kelly apparently tried to pass the car in front of him, but he did not see another car that was approaching in the other lane. The driver of the oncoming car moved over, but the two cars collided and landed in a ditch.
The two people in the second car, who are both from Whitefish, were taken to North Valley Medical Center to be treated for the injuries they sustained in the crash.
The Montana Highway Patrol and the Flathead County Coroner's Officer are still investigating the accident.
