Hall, MT business gets grant, converting to renewable energy use

Updated:

A Hall business is getting a $50,000 boost to help it convert to using renewable energy.

Big Sky Shavings, which produces animal bedding flakes made out of pine trees that would otherwise be considered waste, will use the grant to convert its wood dryer to be powered by wood waste instead of propane.

"This is the perfect example of a small business that is harnessing renewable energy," Baucus said. "Big Sky Shavings is at the forefront of finding alternative uses for wood waste and now they will be able to reduce their energy expenses and use renewable energy in another facet of their operation."

Big Sky Shavings will receive the grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development program.
