The Missoula County elections department has "new digs." And with the new Election Center, the hope is to see the ballot process move smoother in the future.
Montana Secretary of State, Linda McCulloch, is touring elections centers across the state and demonstrating how the Help America Vote Act funds helped here in Missoula county. With the Act, the new Missoula County elections department will install video surveillance, more secure doors, and handicap accessible ballot machine use at its new facility.
"This is going to be the elections office during the elections time so to consider coming here 30 days before up to elections, this is where they want to come," explains Missoula County Clerk and Recorder, Vicki Zeier.
"It will be run very efficiently right here votes will be tabulated right next door in a very secure location so Missoula has a lot to be proud of," said Montana Secretary of State, Linda McCulloch.
People who live in Missoula County will have to get used to traveling to the fairgrounds for elections purposes, but the good news is there's plenty of free parking and a bus route that travels nearby.
Missoula County received $2,500 for security upgrades. In total, the elections department received more a quarter million dollars from HAVA funds.
City ballots go into the mail Monday, for city elections.
