Saturday marks America's largest day of doing good - Make a Difference Day. In following through with that theme, two local groups teamed up Friday to donate new bedding, warm clothing and personal care products to the Butte Rescue Mission on East Second Street.
The Butte VFW 1448 and the Women's Auxiliary delivered 40 new pillows, pillow cases, several blankets, coats, mittens and personal items to the mission Friday afternoon.
Interim executive director of the mission, Rachel Freeman, was moved to tears by the generous gifts.
"There isn't any words I can use to explain how grateful I am and how appreciative we are. I think it's amazing," Freeman said.
"We wanted to do something tangible this year. We wanted to bring something we can really show that we had given," Gail Fish said.
Freeman said the mission is completely full most nights with those seeking shelter, and the number of meals served daily has increased 40 percent.
The mission is still in need of food donations for their holiday meal boxes. They are asking for donations of turkeys, hams and side dishes.
