Community Medical Center's First Splash class is a place for children to socialize and work on developmental milestones.
Parents and their children exercised, danced, and sang songs as they learned different skills which may come in handy in the future when we recently stopped by.
"We do a rescue swim at the end of every class where we basically hold the child on our hip and kick for a minute on each side" explained Ashley Caluon who took part in the class. "Just kind of build our endurance, so if God forbid, our child does fall in the water, we are kind of prepared to get them out."
The First Splash class takes place in a warm water, therapeutic, pool where children learn not to be afraid of water.
"(It's a) fun environment for infants to socialize, work on age-appropriate, developmental milestones and language skills. It's also a great place for parents to network with other moms and dads" commented CMC Inpatient Rehab Physical Therapist Jill Miller."
"Not being afraid of water, I think that's a big thing. She's not going to be afraid to play in it, she's not going to be afraid to get it in her eyes, go under" added Caluon.
The First Splash class is designed for infants and toddlers between eight months and 3 years old.
"I really love that the kiddos get to be together and they get to play and socialize with other kiddos, and it's just a great resource for moms and dads" Miller told us. "Me being a new mom, I learn so much from the other mothers and fathers in the classes."
Not only do the babies love the water exercises, Miller says they also sleep great once they get home from class, which is definitely a bonus for many parents.
