A sentencing date is set for a Waterloo man who pleaded guilty to the amended charge of negligent homicide in the stabbing death of his father.
Cody Eckels, 21, is scheduled for sentencing at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5 in District Court in Dillon before Judge Loren Tucker, according to the Madison County Attorney's Office.
In October 2008 the body of Robin Eckels, 52, was found with multiple stab wounds at the residence at 653 Waterloo Road in Waterloo about 10 miles south of Whitehall. His son, Cody, was arrested and charged with the death.
Cody Eckles pleaded not guilty to deliberate homicide. According to court records, the men began fighting after Robin Eckles refused to share marijuana with his son. Cody Eckles told police he was defending himself after his father attacked him with a knife, but court records show Cody's injuries appeared to be self-inflicted and weren't as severe as those suffered by his father.
Cody Eckels faces up to 20 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.
