The University of Montana campus has remained the setting for tales about unsettled ghosts for decades.

Those stories of paranormal activity continuously feature four buildings: Main Hall, the University Theater, Brantley Hall and Jeannette Rankin Hall.

On one recent October night, the air was bone-chilling, providing a perfect setting for hunting ghosts at UM's Jeannette Rankin Hall.

"Several years ago, I did a school project there. And, basically, we were there and we got an EVP up in the top lecture room," explains Tortured Souls Investigation Co-Founder, Kris Bratlien.

E.V.P. stands for Electronic Voice Phenomenon.

"That's basically like a recorded voice from the dead with nothing else around. So, nobody was in the room to make the voice," adds Rookie Ghost Hunter, Nikki Kelly Reil.

The members of Tortured Souls Investigation- a team of paranormal professionals whose investigations of the Old Montana Prison in Deer Lodge and the Daly Mansion in Hamilton revealed some very eerie activity. Also participating on this night? More than dozen "rookie" ghost hunters, all vying for a spot on the "professional" team.

The DJ's at 107.5 Zoo FM are tracking their ghost hunting skills "live" on the air and online.

"And during that, the viewers at home on their PC will be able to interact with the team while they're doing the investigation in almost real time. So, all the pictures we take, all the videos we take will be uploaded to the site immediately and you can blog about it," said Bratlien.

Once on site, we divide into two groups. Our fellow ghost hunters grab other devices such as infrared thermometers, motion sensors, and night-vision goggles. We head to the basement of Rankin Hall to hear - or even see - unsettled souls.

It's believed the spirit of Jeannette Rankin, herself, haunts the building.

"I've never done ghost hunting before, so this is a first time. I guess we kind of have to wait and see if we get anything tonight. But, I say I'm pretty open to it, and I think that ghosts know if people are open to it or not," adds Reil.

Niki may be open to the possibility of seeing ghosts. But, I'm not so sure we are. Will we run into trouble especially with the rookies on our side? This spooky story continues Thursday.
