House Democrats unveil a new health care reform bill Thursday, prompting Montana Congressman Denny Rehberg to call an emergency Town Hall meeting for Saturday in Billings.
Rehberg's office says Montanans have a right to know what's in the new House bill and what's missing.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's bill would, among other things, create a new government regulated insurance exchange, where private companies could sell policies that compete with the government.
It would also make subsidies available to low-income Americans to help them afford health care, and to small businesses as an incentive to cover their workers. Pelosi says the bill will cost under $900 billion over 10 years and will cover an additional 36 million Americans.
Congressman Rehberg's town hall meeting in Billings will run from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at Petro Hall on the MSU-Billings campus.
Meanwhile, Wyoming Congresswoman Cynthia Lummis reacted to the new Democratic health care bill by saying, "After weeks of meeting behind closed doors, Democrat leaders unveiled yet another health care plan that will raise health care costs, add to our national debt, and hurt seniors, small businesses and families".
Lummis contends America's health care system can be fixed without a massive government takeover.
