Montana and Wyoming are well-known for their scenic landscape and we took a trip to discover what the outdoors really have to offer.
Cody, Wyoming is known for their rodeos and a Wild West mentality, but when you take a drive down the road and, you'll find a completely different attraction.
"You come up here and it's great, it's outdoors, it's green and lush, and hidden gems to climb on all over the place" said Mike Snyder, the author to the Cody Bouldering Guide.
When you think of rock climbing, for most people it's harnesses, ropes and being attached to the rock is what comes to mind. But with bouldering that's not the case.
"Rock climbing with ropes and what not is fun, but you're rarely ever pushing your limit that way, you're trying to hang onto the rope for as long as you can" explained Snyder. But with bouldering, the trip is short, so why not make it the hardest moves that you can do."
Those moves aren't always quick to master, but all of a sudden you get it. "One day you've figured it out. You've got the strength, or the mental game... or whatever it is to finally be able to deal with that" Snyder told us.
He moved to Cody 15 years ago. and since then he has literally written the book on Cody bouldering. "There's different styles. I mean, here we have a cave problem that you have to climb with your back to the ground. And around the corner over there there's a climb that's well past vertical, like, a slab. Totally different style of climbing, different challenges."
The variety and challenges of each route is what attracts people to the sport.
"You can get to the top of any hill by just throwing yourself at it, but making it look smooth and controlled, that's the goal" Billings climber Miles Babcock told us.
It doesn't matter strong you are...but if you have the desire to test your limits, then bouldering is one adventure to add to your list.
