State officials are investigating four elk poached in Beaverhead County.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials say the two cows and two calves were illegally shot west of Grant. The elk were killed within about 30 yards of each other.

FWP officials say one elk was taken and the rest were left behind.

Several hunters reported the poaching.
