Most Missoula incumbents stay in place

Western Montana voters went to the polls on Tuesday to cast ballots in municipal races, varying from city council to mayor to school levies.

The majority of the incumbents competing for their current Missoula City Council seats were far ahead of their opponents, but Missoula's Ward 2 did have an early upset.

The Missoula County Elections Office reports that over 14,000 ballots were counted to come up with the following totals.

  • In Ward 1, incumbent Dave Strohmaier beat Ryan Mortan by a tally of 1,824 tp 562 (76%-23%).
  • Ward 2 saw an upset, with incumbent John Hendrickson losing to oy Houseman, Junior. The numbers show Houseman with 1,096 votes compared with Hendrickson's 834 (57%-43%).
  • Incumbent Bob Jaffe held onto the Ward 3 seat, beating out John Quandt 1,458-469 (76%-24%).
  • It was a close race in Ward 5 with only 70 votes separating the two candidates, but incumbent Dick Haines won Ward 5 with 1,398, compared to O'Herron's 1,328 (51%-49%).
  • And in Ward 6, incumbent Marilyn Marler beat Kathy Greathouse, 1,126 votes to 559 (67%-33%).

The race for Seeley Lake County Sewer District Director saw Glen Morin pick up 146 votes. Robert Skiles received 118 votes, Micharl Lindemer 105, David Whitesitt 88 and Cheryl Thompson picked up 53 votes.

The effort to create a Seeley Lake Resort Area District went down to defeat with 207 saying no and 155 saying yes to the measure.

The question of the Evaro O'Keege Special District passed 117-104 (53%-47%). The effort to pass a resort tax for Seeley Lake also went down to defeat. 210 said no to the propsal, with 152 saying yes.
