2 Polson residents sentenced for Food Stamp Fraud

Two Polson residents were sentenced in U.S. District Court by in Missoula by Judge Donald Molloy for their roles in carrying out Food Stamp Fraud.    

Chad Brooks, 36, and Michelle Brooks, 45, pleaded guilt to theft of federal property by fraud.  Judge Molloy sentenced them to five years probation, $25,530 in restitution and $100 in special assessment.    

Michelle Brooks was also sentenced to six months of home arrest.    

According to court records, from June 2001 through June 2007, the couple were overpaid at least $24,806 in federal Food Stamp Program benefits due to false statements made to the Montana Department of Health and Human

Services, and six month reports relating to their household income and household composition.
