Authorities in Butte are looking for a suspect who allegedly went on a joy ride with an SUV on the big “M,” taking out 10 feet of fence.

Police Captain George Skuletich says an officer on routine patrol spotted a Ford Bronco parked above the "M" early Saturday morning just after midnight.

When the officer hiked to the vehicle and tapped on the window on the driver's side, the man took off, driving the SUV down the hill. When the vehicle got stuck the man fled.

Thermal imaging was used to locate the SUV, but the driver got away.

The suspect is from Butte, according to Skuletich.  His name was not released.

The man faces possible charges of criminal mischief, trespassing and having an open container.
