Butte commissioner proposes plan for historic buildings

Posted:

Updated:

Some of Butte's aging historic buildings could find new homes if an idea by Commissioner Dave Palmer pans out.

Palmer wants to allow people asking to tear down historic structures to be allowed to move them to vacant lots owned by the county. Silver Bow County would then work to find buyers and developers for the old structures.

Palmer doesn't know if his idea is economically feasible, but he thinks it should be studied.

During Tuesday night’s council meeting, plans to ask Chief Executive Paul Babb to appoint a committee to explore the issue. He is also asking the Butte Restoration Alliance to look at the proposal.
