Several local schools were awarded grants Monday from the Butte Education Foundation.
A total of four grants were awarded.
Butte High School is the recipient of two of the grants which were presented in the school's cafeteria during lunch. The first one is for a little more than $2,500 for a new greenhouse.
“Put it here in the courthouse, be a good place. I think kids have more of a learning experience, hands on, a chance to teach botany, photosynthesis and plant anatomy in a place the students built,” Butte High School biology teacher David Murto said.
The second grant awarded is for $500. The funds will be used to supplement a trip to the Grand Canyon in April for low income students in advanced English.
“It's a journaling trip. We'll keep journals, hike down to the interior of the Grand Canyon for a week, hopefully these journals will transform into articles," Butte High School English teacher David Johnson said.
Grants were also awarded to West Elementary School with a little more than $700 for equipment to be used with Smart Boards in third grade and $460 for the first grade behavioral management program.
