Every student in Montana is expected to be proficient in math by the year 2014 under the guidelines set by the 'No Child Left Behind' law.
In an effort to meet those standards some teachers are adding to their curriculum with creative programs, including this week's winner of our "One Class At A Time" grant, Marilyn Clark.
Clark is a teacher at Four Georgians Elementary in Helena, and she plans to use the $250 grant for a math enrichment program called "Everyday Math."
Each day, the program builds essential learning math concepts a little at a time.
Clark explained, "This program takes all the curriculum areas, all the goals that we have for 5th-grade math and it gives them a little bit of practice in each of those areas everyday, so that's why its called 'everyday math'."
KRTV and First Interstate Bank will give away another grant for $250 every Monday here on Montana's News Station.
