Missoula officials say they'll have to replace a few handicap ramps in the city, but that won't affect the controversial bulbouts that have popped up in recent months.
Some people have already been criticizing the bulbouts, saying they are interfering with bike riders are aren't compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
The construction project manager for the City of Missoula says it's the ramps, not the bulbouts, that need some revisions.
Officials recently chose Missoula for a federal random audit and the city discovered approximately 10 ramps didn't meet ADA standards because they're missing the rough surface to warn the visually impaired. Now, they will also upgrade the ramps by adding "tactile warnings”.
Missoula is already spending $600,000 of stimulus money to install ramps around the city and the upgrades won't take place until this spring when the city installs the other ramps.
