Montana State University students showed off their school spirit and some skin Friday for the school’s first-ever Undie Run.

With the Cat-Griz football game less than a day away, MSU students stripped down in 30-degree temperatures to show what they were made of. About 100 students sported Bobcat paraphernalia, body paint, socks, sneakers, scarves and little else to sprint across campus.

The crowd started out small with just a couple brave students standing under at the east gate of Centennial Mall, but as noon approached, the crowd of runners and onlookers had grown. When the bells at Montana Hall struck noon, the students took off, spiriting to the new Bobcat statue then to the west gate and back to the east gate for the finish. It took just a few minutes for the race to wrap up.

The runners were cheered on by a large crowd that had gathered on campus.

As for the weather, the students lucked out. Skies were clear, the sun shining and temperatures were in the 30s.

The run was promoted by posters on the MSU campus and a Facebook page that had drawn 241 friends as of Friday afternoon. The Facebook page’s profile identifies the user as “Spirit Bobcat.” When asked who organized the event, those who turned out early for the run simply said “Spirit.”
