A long distance run to celebrate the big game is underway as a Missoula fraternity is carrying on an old tradition of running to Bozeman in the spirit of the football game.
Members of University of Montana’s Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity left Missoula extra early for the game. They are taking turns running the 200 miles of Interstate 90 all the way to Bozeman.
"The plan for the next couple of days is to have somebody running for the next 48 hours at all times," UM Sigma Phi President Colin McLean said.
They have 16 runners to rotate and plan to have someone running at all times, even through the night.
"We kind of rotate, so you kind of run until you're tired, get back in the car, someone else runs and once people get tired you kind of switch out,” UM Sigma Phi member Randy Khong said.
MSU’s chapter of Sigma Phi plans to run to Missoula for next year’s Cat-Griz game. On Saturday the Bozeman group will be waiting to see how their fraternity brothers fared.
“I'm just hoping they have a lot of hot chocolate and lots of nice couches for us to relax on when we get there,” McLean said.
“We have a BBQ set up when they arrive and we have some comfortable couches and a nice warm house where they can rest for a while,” former MSU Sigma Phi president Dustin Stoltz said.
The fraternity brothers from Missoula expect to arrive at Bozeman's Sigma Phi Epsilon by 11 a.m. Saturday, but as for the game, many of them say they will probably be too tired to go.
