The Missoula area received a dusting of the white stuff on Sunday morning as many woke up to snow, and in some areas, icy roads.
Snow blanketed the valleys and hills in most of western Montana, while there were some reports of snowfall on Sunday morning in NorthWestern Montana as well.
The Missoula Police Department told us that they responded to numerous fender benders around town, but say that for the most part, everyone adjusted to one of the first snowfalls of the season quite well.
Traffic was backed up for a time on Rattlesnake Drive, Hillview Way and Garrett Streets Sunday morning, but traffic began moving normally as the morning progressed into afternoon and the temperatures warmed up a bit.
The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory late Saturday, which remains in effect until 11:00 Sunday night for areas above 3,500 feet.
The advisory is for Missoula, Mineral, Ravalli and Sanders counties with forecasters saying that between 4 and 8 inches of snow is possible through Sunday evening.
Gusty winds could cause blowing snow and reduced visibility and those headed over Lookout Pass should use extra caution and be prepared for icy conditions and travel difficulties.
