A University of Montana student from Helena died in a Sunday afternoon crash while on his way back from the Cat-Griz game in Bozeman.
The Jefferson County Coroner says 19 year old Joseph Michael McKeon died in the two vehicle accident near Three Forks.
The Montana Highway Patrol reports that McKeon was driving a pickup truck westbound on Interstate 90 when his vehicle slid across the highway into oncoming traffic and struck a semi truck head on.
McKeon's female passenger and the driver of the semi were taken to the hospital. There injuries are unknown at this time.
The Montana Highway Patrol says speed and unfavorable road conditions were factors in the crash.
(from November 23, 2009) A Helena man is dead and two others were taken to the hospital after a pickup truck and semi truck collided on Interstate 90 Sunday afternoon.
A Ford pickup truck was traveling westbound on Interstate 90 at around 2 p.m. when it slid across the road at mile marker 272 near the border of Jefferson and Broadwater counties, crossed the median and entered into the eastbound lane of traffic, according to Montana Highway Patrol Sgt. Pat McCarthy.
When it entered the eastbound traffic, a semi truck hauling furniture crashed into the pickup, McCarthy said. The pickup came to rest in the median and the semi traveled across the roadway and into westbound traffic.
The driver of the pickup, a 19-year old Helena man who was heading back to Missoula after attending the Cat-Griz football game in Bozeman, was pronounced dead at the scene. His female passenger and the driver of the semi were taken to the hospital.
Montana Highway Patrol troopers were still on the scene at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Occasional lane restrictions were still being enforced at that time.
McCarthy said that speed and road conditions were factors in the crash.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department also responded to the crash.
