Bozeman Commission considers air quality study for Solvent Site

The Bozeman City Commission is considering authorizing an air quality study relating to the Bozeman Solvent Site.

A former dry cleaner inadvertently released hazardous chemicals at what is now known as the Hastings Shopping Center.

The $125,000 study would gather off-site air quality figures to compare with data currently being gathered at the site.

“Solvent-affected ground water was discovered in 1989, and the site has been monitored on a regular basis since. Ground water monitoring has involved domestic wells (residential and business) as well as a network of monitoring wells.   Monitoring activities are conducted by Maxim Technologies, Inc. on a semi-annual basis,” according to Gallatin County’s Web site.

The city will also decide on a contract for construction of a new pedestrian and bicycle path. The asphalt pathway would begin at the intersection of 11th Avenue and College Street and run to the intersection of Huffine Lane and Ferguson.
