A change of plea hearing is scheduled for an East Helena man charged with killing two people, one a former Butte resident, while driving under the influence.
Travis Fuqua, 32, is charged in a June 24 crash that left a Helena couple dead. He has pleaded not guilty to two counts of vehicular homicide while under the influence. During a pretrial conference Wednesday in Boulder, the December 9 trial date was vacated and instead a change of plea hearing was scheduled for January 6.
Police say Fuqua was trying to make a left turn when his pickup truck crashed into an oncoming motorcycle ridden by Karl Pentecost, 35, and Charmon Rene Pentecost, 37. The couple died at the scene.
Fuqua was also charged with another DUI in October in Boulder. He remains in custody. Bond is set at $300,000.

A district judge has granted a motion by the state to extend the deadline to reach a plea agreement in a case involving an East Helena man charged with killing two people, one a former Butte resident, while driving under the influence.

In a court order dated November 19, Judge Loran Tucker granted the state's motion for a 10-day extension. Police say Fuqua was trying to make a left turn when his pickup truck crashed into an oncoming motorcycle ridden by Karl Pentecost, 35, and Charmon Rene Pentecost, 37. The couple died at the scene.
Fuqua was charged with another DUI in October in Boulder after he crashed his girlfriend's car into a ditch. He remains in custody.
