A hunter was rescued this evening near Augusta after receiving injuries from falling off a horse.
A call requesting medical assistance and rescue efforts came from the Sun Canyon Lodge shortly after noon on Wednesday.
According to Lewis & Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton, 62-year old Don Jones from Hemphill Texas was part of a large hunting party from Great Falls.
Dutton says he suffered a very-badly injured left shoulder after being thrown off a horse. The rescue effort was complicated by the fact that he came to rest on a cliff.
After a highly technical rescue effort, the man was brought down from the cliff on a wheeled cart and was then transported to an ambulance around 7:30 this evening.
We're told he's in stable condition at Benefis Health System.
Mercy Flight was called in to assist at around 4:30, but was unable to help due to the high winds in the area.
