Thanksgiving may be an American holiday, but Black Friday sure seems to be international as one Canadian group's presence in the Flathead helps to carry the big shopping day.
"There's rules: No men, no children, no limits". That's the philosophy of a Canadian group called Shop 'Til Ya Drop.
Every Black Friday they drive south to into the Flathead for a weekend of flexing their buying power and scooping up the good deals.
The group started about 10 years ago with eight women, and this year it's up to nearly 50, and they say they love Montana shopping.
"Your prices are so much lower, and the quality and just the different choices are it's just so different than Canada" explained the group's Jill Rowland.
Most of the ladies are from Southern Alberta, but one group member flew all the way from Scotland to shop in Kalispell with her Canadian friends.
"So much fun. They organize a whole load of kid of treats and games and fun. It's the whole experience it's not even just the shopping" Nicki Gardiner told us. "It's the whole experience. It's a fun thing to do with all the girls."
The women work closely with the stores to get coupons and special group deals and even bring along these VIP cards as they shop. Kalispell stores say their business is crucial, especially right now.
"It's huge. Especially in the economy that we have going on right now. We don't have a lot of local shoppers all the time, so the ladies from Canada really do support a huge amount of our business" said Wendy Brown, the Bath and Body Works Manager at the Kalispell Center Mall store.
Last year the group spent over $50,000 in the Valley when they came down for Black Friday, a number that's likely in the process of being broken.
