Green, a word that was once just a color, has taken on a whole new meaning and people all around the world our jumping on the environmentally friendly bandwagon.
In fact you can actually plan your vacation with green stops along the way. This Cody, Wyoming hotel could be one of them.
Hotel manager of The Cody, Janet Gideon, says, "There are six suites in the hotel that are all decorated in a theme. There's the Annie Oakley room, the Lewis and Clark room..."
The new luxury hotel may look like any other but it's the features that aren't so obvious that might surprise you.
"We have no paper products in the hotel except for tissue paper and that is biodegradable. Our breakfast has cloth napkins, china, and glass wear. So we're washing a lot of dishes." Says Gideon. And to wash those dishes, energy saving appliances.
It's the only green hotel in Cody and we're not talking about color.
Gideon says, "I think the owners have just realized that it's time to conserve and we are hoping to teach our employees the same kind of thing, where they take these practices home so we can all reduce our footprint."
From the light bulbs in the ceiling, to the paint on the walls, and on down to the carpet and tile floors, you'll find environmentally friendly features in every room.
This mattress is made of latex fill and natural bamboo fiber covers and the amenities in the bathroom are organic.
For breakfast, the hotel offers a variety of organic foods and parked outside is a gas-saving GMC hybrid SUV for airport shuttles.
The green list goes on but perhaps one of the most unique features comes from a national landmark. The lumber found on these walls was actually taken from planks that once surrounded old faithful.
"I think people come into Yellowstone that really love nature and this hotel fits that. So if you see what is surrounding you in Yellowstone, it's reflected here in The Cody too." says Gideon.
It is a hotel that's recycling the past to preserve a green future.
Construction of The Cody began just more than a year ago and the green hotel opened it's doors for the first time this May.
A week night stay in one of the hotel's themed suites costs around $260 a night. A normal room goes for around $210.
