Yellowstone County Attorney Dennis Paxinos Monday endorsed Republican attorney Tim Fox in his race for State Attorney General.
Paxinos announced his support Monday, during a news conference in Billings.
The two men are working together to try to pass the Castle Doctrine law, which several other states have approved.
It supports the right to protect yourself and your home with a firearm under self-defense.
Fox says right now, it's unclear what rights Montanans have when it comes to bearing arms, and if passed, the bill would make that more clear.
Fox says, "We can clarify the law and that we're not in the situation where we're perhaps prosecuting folks who really were legitimately defending themselves, but we also need to be very careful. We need to protect law enforcement officials so that they're not put at risk and we also have to keep out the loopholes, if you will, so that criminals don't use these laws as excuses to hurt someone and then claim self defense."
Fox tells Montana's News Station he and Paxinos have set a goal to get the Castle Doctrine enacted in the next legislature.
