Americans are making adjustments in at least one sector of the economy; in spite of record high fuel prices, many people are still fulfilling their desire for the outdoors and camping.

Traveling fewer miles for fewer days, and making fewer trips seem to be the trend.

KOA Kampgrounds reports a slight drop in business, and says they are off last year's record season. Still, KOA says this year ranks in their top five, and credits that to the lifestyle and the passion some have for camping.

Many of the KOA's 470 campgrounds are doing well, and it may be some that people just going to a campground closer to home.

KOA says 80% of its business is to RV campers, who are making up for gasoline costs by cutting in other places -- It's a trend KOA has seen before.

"It happened at $2.50, and then $3.00. There's always a shock value and people have to adjust to that and it's harder to adjust to that as prices keep climbing," Mike Gast with KOA.   "We're seeing a slight downturn but nothing catastrophic and again because people's passion for RV'ing."

Gast says KOA Kampgrounds near Yellowstone National park are doing well. He says lots of foreigners are visiting KOA in the park, Cody, West Yellowstone, and near Livingston.
