Glacier National Park and Yellowstone National Park bith experienced a slump in visitor numbers this past season.

Glacier National Park officials said they think the 2.6% decline is primarily related to the late opening of the Going to the Sun Road and the early partial closing for construction.

Park officials said gas prices may have had an impact, but that was offset by an increase in Canadian visitation.

While June and July were slow months while the road was closed, but August and early September were busier than usual. Park officials said they don't expect the small decrease to make much of a financial impact.

"This could a be a tough year for us just because of the economy being down in general because of maybe not getting as much funding from Congress which is the bulk of our funding, so it could be a tough year in general, but that small 2 percent from the entry fees I don't think will be our biggest concern,"said Glacier National Park's, Laura Whildin.

Park officials said entrance fees will not be raised next year and they wanted to keep the fees the same during the Going to the Sun Road Rehabilitation.
