Montana scam warning issued

Updated:

Montana Attorney General Steve Bullock is warning Montanans about a recent rash of e-mail and text message scams that have been making the rounds.

One of the emails appears to be coming from Montana-based Mountain West Bank and directs the recipients to a web site that looks nearly identical to Mountain West's homepage. But, the email is actually a phishing scam trying to get personal information from consumers.

Bullock says that while the current scam involves Mountain West, the scammers continually change the companies they impersonate.

He adds that you should not reply to any e-mail that asks for personal information..

Information about the scam is available by contacting the Montana Department of Office of Consumer Protection at (800) 481-6896.
