A Three Forks woman has been named as this year's recipient of the Jeannette Rankin Peace Award.
The Institute for Peace Studies at Rocky Mountain College says that Marietta Jaeger Lane will be recognized for her work against the death penalty.
The award is given each year to a Montanan or a person with Montana ties, for his or her work toward peace on local and global levels.
Lane's seven-year-old daughter was kidnapped, molested and killed in 1973. Lane initially said if given the opportunity, she would have killed the murderer, but she then changed her mind, and for the last 36 years has been a vocal opponent of the death penalty.
David Meirhoffer admitted to killing Susie Jaeger and three others in Gallatin County, but he hanged himself in jail before he stood trial.
This year's peace award will be presented in Billings on Nov. 20th.
