The cause of a Friday night fire in Black Eagle remains undetermined, according to firefighters. However, law enforcement officials say a cigarette may have started the blaze.
The fire destroyed a trailer home, shed and garage and forced 10 people from their homes. It lit up the sky over Black Eagle.
The fire was driven by high winds, requiring about 50 firefighters to the blaze late into the night.
The fire started in the garage that was used for storage, according to firefighters. It eventually destroyed a shed and also this trailer home.
"That was my bedroom - you can kind of still see it," Breann Knight said. Knight was cheerleading for UGF Friday night when she talked to her mom on the phone.
A Harley, Christmas supplies, and tools that were inside the garage were destroyed, as was Knight's bedroom.
"All my school books and my laptop, clothes, shoes, everything that I own," she said.
Ten people, including renters, were able to get out safely. The three families are getting help from the Red Cross.
A list things of the families need is at Wal-Mart. Anyone who would like to help can also contact the Knight family at 406-590-3277.
(From Nov. 20, 2009) Crews from Black Eagle and Gore Hill responded to a structure fire on Chicago Avenue in Black Eagle shortly before 10:00 p.m. on Friday evening.
Two structures - a house and a garage - were fully engulfed in flames.
The owner tells us he went out his back door to smoke a cigarette and noticed a wall of orange flame. He wasn't sure if it started at the house or the garage.
A neighbor said she noticed the fire from across the alley and called 911.
There was a brief search for a 6-year old boy who was thought to be missing, but we've learned that the child was found safe and did not require medical attention.
All other occupants have been accounted for, and there are no initial reports of any injuries.
