The University of Montana Grizzlies beat the Montana State University Bobcats 33 to 19 in Saturday's 109th Cat-Griz match up.
The win put the Griz at 11-0 for the season.
Both teams' defenses dominated early.
Late in the first quarter Justin Roper was sacked in the endzone by Dan Ogden. The safety gave the Bobcats a 2-0.
In the second quarter at fourth and goal the Griz were at the one yard line but they couldn't get in the endzone. Chase Reynolds was stopped short and the Cats took over. But three plays later, Mark Iddins wasn't looking for the snap, it rolled back into the endzone and Iddins fell on it. It was another safety, tying up the game 2-2.
About half way through the second quarter, someone finally got in the endzone the right way. Andrew Selle passed to Marc Mariani for the nine-yard touchdown, putting the Griz up 9-2.
Then, late in the half, UM tried to add to their score, but Dane Fletcher stormed through the line and Brody McKnight's 40-yard field goal.
Then on a fourth and one, Griz punter Sean Wren decided to run for it.
He was stopped two yards short of the first down, and the Cats turned the good field position into a field goal.
The University of Montana was leading 9-5 at halftime.
In the second half, the passing game started working for the Griz. Selle threw another touchdown pass to Mariani, and then Justin Roper hit tight end Dan Beaudin for another score, pushing the score to 23-5.
In the fourth quarter, the Griz were up by 21.
The Cats finally had some offense in the fourth when Cody Kempt passed to Joe Schreibeis who wrestled it away from the defender and crossed over the goal line.
But then Montana went on a nine-minute, 18-play drive that ended on a Selle to Beaudin touchdown pass.
Selle threw three touchdown passes on the day. The Cats added a late touchdown, but the Griz won again, 33 to 19.
