Butte police officer pleads not guilty

Associated Press - November 25, 2009 7:54 PM ET

BUTTE, Mont. (AP) - A veteran Butte-Silver Bow police officer has pleaded not guilty to releasing confidential information about the arrest of a health department employee.

Officer Kent Fargher entered his plea Wednesday before District Judge Brad Newman.

He is charged with official misconduct, a misdemeanor, and is on paid administrative leave.

He is accused of releasing a two-page police report on a June arrest of a Butte-Silver Bow Health Department employee. Authorities say Fargher's wife also works in the department and the report was circulated within the agency.

Fargher's wife, Belinda, also faces a charge of obstructing a peace officer stemming from the incident.
