According to a press release from the Beaverhead County Sheriff's office, the Madison County 9-1-1 center received a call on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. regarding an ATV accident in the remote area of Conklin Lake in the easternmost portions of the Centennial Valley and Beaverhead County.
Further information provided by Madison County reported the person operating the ATV had incurred significant injuries resulting in death.
The Beaverhead County Coroner and Sheriff's deputies responded and arrived at the scene of the accident around 3:30 p.m. Madison County Sheriff's Deputies and Montana Highway Patrol assisted in the investigation.
The deceased was identified as Darlene Beth Bolander, 84-years-old, of Firth, Idaho.
Bolander and her husband were operating separate ATV's along with three other friends when Bolander lost control of her ATV throwing her off the vehicle to the rocky terrain.
The ATV then rolled over Bolander and came to rest further down the trail.
Bolander was not familiar with the road and trails in the area. She was not wearing a helmet and alcohol was not a factor in the incident, according to Jay Hansen, Beaverhead County Sheriff.
