MISSOULA - Allegiant Air was been forced to cancel or reschedule several flights after potential problems were found with many slides on their MD80 fleet.
The issue "will require immediate re-inspection of many slides in its MD80 fleet," according to a news release, which adds that Allegiant hopes to finish the re-inspections by the end of September.
Allegiant is taking as many as 30 MD80s out of service and flight delays and cancellations on "a number of flights over the next several days," the announcement states.
"We apologize for the disruption to our passengers and ask that they please remain patient as we work to correct the issue, reschedule affected flights and accommodate any passengers impacted," said Andrew Levy, Allegiant Travel Company President.
It's not known how long the disruption in flight schedule will last, with the airline saying that they have "activated additional call center staff, and Allegiant will be contacting affected travelers directly."
Customers may also sign up for flight alerts for individual flights online or call (702) 505.8888 for more information.
The discount airline has numerous flights that service Missoula International Airport. The Friday afternoon departure to Las Vegas is currently listed as delayed on the airport's website.
We are continuing to investigate if these inspections will have an impact on Bozeman Allegiant flights.
