At last week's Choteau rodeo, Deena Moeykens won her round with an 18-second run. Just minutes later, Deena's 11-year-old daughter, Tayla, also won her round with a time just 64 seconds slower.
"It's absolutely the best thing in the world. I can't think of anything better than competing with my daughter. We get to travel together, we have the same passion. Just being together, we do it as a whole family and I think that's the best thing about it," Deena said.
"Oh, so much fun, I love it. Because I get to travel with her and do everything I can with her and it's just so much fun," Tayla said.
But it's not all fun. There are daily practice sessions with Deena, a three-time state rodeo competitor in barrel racing and pole bending.
Being consistent and being fast have made Deena and Tayla of Three Forks, two of the best barrel racers in the country. Deena rides her 13-year-old horse, Charger, and Tayla rides Charger's 12-year-old brother, Cruiser.
