BUTTE - A woman who was killed after getting out of a vehicle on Interstate 15 has been identified.
Peggy Joyce Witt, 61, was with a male driver, heading north on I-15 when they began arguing. The man pulled over the vehicle and Witt exited.
Two reports were made to the Anaconda Police Department about a woman wandering in the highway, wearing dark clothing.
While Montana Highway Patrol was responding to those calls, a chilling 911 call was made to Butte dispatch from the male driver, saying the woman had been struck.
The vehicle that struck Witt never stopped and continued north bound on I-15.
"Obviously somebody struck her and at that point they needed to stop so that we can identify them and determine what happened. Right now we just need to talk, you know somebody did strike her thinking they may have hit something else and not hit a person or whatever. They need to come talk to us so that we can determine what actually did happen," said Montana Highway Patrol Captain Gary Becker.
MHP recovered auto parts belonging to the vehicle involved in the incident. They have been sent away for analysis to determine the vehicle.
Anyone with information is asked to call local authorities or the Montana Highway Patrol at 406-494-3233.
