BOZEMAN - A Gallatin County judge set bail at $1 million Monday for a man accused of raping an eight year old girl.
Russell Bullock, 44, is charged with two felonies. Prosecutors say he broke into the garage of a home on South 19th Avenue early Friday morning. An eight year old girl was apparently sleeping in a car in the garage. The girl's 12 year old brother heard her calling for help and opened the door to the garage to find a white male wearing a T-shirt and nothing else.
When police arrived at the home, Bullock was found hiding in the tall grass outside the residence. He was arrested and charged with sexual intercourse without consent and aggravated burglary.
During an interview with detectives, Bullock said he went to Music on Main on Thursday and was drinking whiskey. He told police he met four other men who took him to a local bar and later assaulted him and threw him out of the vehicle at an unknown location.
The judge set bail at $1 million, citing the seriousness of the alleged crimes. The prosecution told the judge that Bullock has five children, three of whom live with him, and four grandchildren.
He has prior convictions in Montana for theft and escape. A preliminary hearing is set for August 16th. If convicted, Bullock faces up to 100 years in prison.
